Analysis Plan TitleExamining differences in how Canadians living with and survivors of cancer experienced the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the general population: A comparative analysis of psychosocial outcomes
Analysis Plan DescriptionThis project will examine whether Canadians living with cancer differed from the general Canadian population in their responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, it will investigate group differences in (1) COVID-19 health behaviours, (2) psychological functioning and coping, and (3) COVID-19-related attitudes. Secondary analyses will be conducted using data from the Canadian Cancer Trials Group SC.27 survey (N = 559) and the Canadian representative sample from iCARE Surveys 1–14 collected between April 2020 and December 2021. The primary independent variable will be population group membership (individuals living with cancer versus the general Canadian population). Dependent variables will include health behaviours (e.g., mask wearing, physical distancing, and self-isolation), psychological outcomes (e.g., anxiety, depression, quality of life, and coping), and COVID-19-related attitudes (e.g., perceptions of public health measures, government responses, and vaccination). Primary analyses will use multivariable regression models selected according to outcome type (e.g., logistic, ordinal logistic, and linear regression), adjusting for demographic characteristics and survey timing. Interaction analyses will examine whether group differences varied across pandemic periods or demographic subgroups. Multiple-comparison procedures will be applied where appropriate to control Type I error.
